FTP Picture UploadSubmitted by Daboo on Fri, 02/12/2010 - 00:46 |

I picked up a neat app last night that I thought would be a really nice compliment to the d-mag.org website I created and manage. The App is FTP Picture Upload by Headlight Software, Inc. The whole purpose of this app is to take photos with the iPhone and automatically upload them to a website using the FTP protocol.
Now you may be wondering why exactly you might want to do that, which is a valid question. So, I'll tell you why.
I wanted to do it because it gave me the ability to take pictures and upload them without having to go home and get on the computer to upload pics after the meeting (which means it would never get done). Less effort equals more free time. To top it off, I purchased another cool flash web application a few years ago called FlashNifties Flash Slideshow by Flashnifties.com which I configured to point to the folder the photos were being ftp'd to and randomly show the photos on the site in near real-time. Now, how cool is that?
The Slideshow app was $10.00 and the FTP Photo app was $1.99. Definitely not bad, considering the possibilities. Can't show you the end result, due to member privacy, so it's on the member section of the site, but I can tell you, I will be using this for every meeting moving forward.
FTP Picture Upload is really quite cool and works fairly well. You can find it here in the App Store.
The only problem I encountered is that it crashed a couple of times. I used FreeMemory, which is another must have, to free up enough memory on my 3G iPhone. Problem solved. FreeMemory is great to run before using memory intense apps to ensure they have enough memory to operate properly. I just looked for the link, and apparently this app has been banned from the app store, as have all like apps. That's too bad, as I really like it.
Now, this may sound like one great big advertisement. You may wonder why I'm plugging these great apps, and what am I getting in return. I'm getting nothing. Just the satisfaction of sharing my findings/experience with other iPhone users.
