Introduction to TrueCrypt 4

• Can Create a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a real disk.
• Encrypts an entire hard disk partition or a device.
• Encryption is automatic, real-time (on-the-fly) and transparent.
• Provides two levels of plausible deniability:
  • 1) Hidden volume (steganography).
  • 2) No TrueCrypt volume can be identified (volumes cannot be distinguished from random data).
• Available Encryption algorithms: AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key), CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish.

Steps to Configuring and Using TrueCrypt 4

• Create an Encrypted File Hosted Volume
• Mount the Encrypted File Hosted Volume
• Use the Encrypted File Hosted Volume
• Dismount the Encrypted File Hosted Volume

  • To Begin the Encrypted Volume Creation Process, Click the “Create Volume” button

TrueCrypt -- Volume Creation Wizard - Volume Type

• Select the type of volume you would like to create (Standard/Hidden)

• Specify the location that you wish to create your file hosted volume or partition

• Select the Encryption and Hash Algorithms you wish to use.

• Select how large you would like your encrypted container to be.

• Enter the password you wish to use as the key for your container.

• Select the type of filesystem you would like to use for your encrypted drive.

• From the main screen, mount your encrypted drive.
  • Select a drive letter from the top list.
  • Click Mount
  • Enter the Password you assigned to the Truecrypt Encrypted Volume

TrueCrypt - Volume in Explorer

• Open Explorer and navigate to your newly mounted drive.
• Access and use the encrypted drive just like you would a normal disk.
