TrueCrypt 4.2

File Encryption Overview

  • Protect Sensitive Information from Prying Eyes
  • Ensure that if machine is stolen, sensitive data cannot be viewed
  • Plausible Deniability
  • AES (Rijndael), Blowfish Algorithms (My Favorites)
  • Containers and Partitions

Introduction to TrueCrypt 4

  • Can Create a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mount it as a real disk.
  • Encrypts an entire hard disk partition or a device.
  • Encryption is automatic, real-time (on-the-fly) and transparent.
  • Provides two levels of plausible deniability:
    • 1) Hidden volume (steganography).
    • 2) No TrueCrypt volume can be identified (volumes cannot be distinguished from random data).
  • Available Encryption algorithms: AES-256, Blowfish (448-bit key), CAST5, Serpent, Triple DES, and Twofish.
