| |
Setup
|
- Print These instructions and Battery_Holder_0-03_Stencil.png.
- Gather your tools.
- Read Notes Section before starting this project, as there are actually
two possible ways to build this holder.
|
| |
Instructions
|
- Line the stencil up on your piece of 2x4 and mark the center of each
X crossing the battery holes and corner holes with your center punch.
- Clamp the 2x4 to a piece of scrap wood
- Drill all the way through the 2x4 C holes and Corner holes with your
1" Wood Boring Bit.
- Drill all the way through the 2x4 AA holes with your 5/8" Wood
Boring Bit.
- Mark the lines connecting the outer edges of the Corner Holes using
your pencil and Straight Edge.
- Clamp the 2x4 down with the bottom edge with the Corner Holes exposed
on both top and bottom.
- With your Jig Saw, cut along the line connecting the outer edges of
the Corner Holes.
- Sand around the edges of all of the holes to clean up the edges. Pay
particular attention to the large hole for the D Cell Batteries.
- Line up the 1/2 inch plywood on the bottom edge of the 2x4. Tap the
wire brads almost through the 1/2 inch plywood.
- Apply Wood Glue to the bottom edge of the 2x4
- Line 1/2" plywood up and finish tapping the nails through.
- Wipe any excess glue away
- Lightly sand the battery holder.
- Wipe the battery holder with a damp cloth to remove any remaining
sawdust.
- Stain
- Clear Coat
- Apply rubber feet to bottom (~1/2" away from the edges)
- Done

Notes
|
- There are two ways to make the holder. I made my first ones with a
hand drill so I drilled all the way through the 2x4 and tacked a piece
of 1/2 inch thick wood to the bottom with a bit of Elmers and a couple
of wire brads. This is the method my instructions cover.
- Later I got a drill press and set the depth to 1-1/4, leaving a 1/4
inch at the bottom. To finish the area that the 9V and D Batteries go,
I used a clamp and my router.
